The city of Berkeley's Building Energy Saving Ordinance (BESO) requires building owners and homeowners to complete and publicly report comprehensive energy assessments to uncover energy saving opportunities. The assessments are conducted by registered energy assessors who provide tailored recommendations on how to save energy and link building owners to incentive programs for energy efficiency upgrade projects, such as Energy Upgrade California. Energy efficiency improvements are voluntary and encouraged. BESO is required prior to sale of a house or whole building under 25,000 square feet, and on a phased-in schedule for multifamily and commercial buildings.

After understanding your project, we'll provide you with a cost estimate and contract that includes our terms and conditions. A copy of our standard contract for services is available for download at the link below under 'Downloads and Data'.
Once have an agreement on the scope of our services, we'll request documents and data so we can start out work. Your project manager may request documents via email or a secure data portal dedicated to your project (see instructions below**)
We'll arrange a site visit at a time that's convenient for you. The length of our visit, and any staff support we'll need from you while we're on site, will be discussed prior to our visit.
We'll do our energy analysis and review with the results with you. We'll discuss any necessary revisions and will then provide you with your final compliance documents.
After we're all done we'll electronically transmit your final BESO compliance files to you. Tierra will submit these files to the city of Berkeley and keep you informed on the process.
